STM Solar Powered Runway Guard Light

Airfield Lighting Systems Introduces STM Solar Runway Guard Light for Reliable Off-Grid Runway Safety

June 19, 2026 – Airfield Lighting Systems (ALS), a leading innovator in airfield ground lighting solutions for commercial and military airports, today announced the launch of its new STM Solar Runway Guard Light (STM.804). This high-performance elevated LED solution provides clear visual warnings at runway holding positions, enhancing safety for aircraft and ground operations.

The STM.804 features two side-by-side unidirectional LED modules that deliver alternating flashes (yellow or red) at 45–50 per minute. Available in yellow (STM.804.RGL.01(Y)) for standard ICAO/FAA compliance and red (STM.804.RGL.02(R)) for traffic/holding position applications, it ensures highly visible stop-bar signalling in all conditions.

Key Features and Benefits

  • High-Efficiency LEDs: Up to 60,000-hour service life with direct colour emission for superior reliability and visibility.
  • Solar-Powered Option: Fully autonomous operation with integrated high-efficiency solar panel and battery system — ideal for off-grid, remote, or temporary installations. Pairs with astronomical time relays (e.g., ASTRO series) for automatic sunrise/sunset scheduling.
  • Robust Construction: Corrosion-resistant aluminium body with IP65 protection and wide operating temperature range (-55°C to +55°C).
  • Precise Adjustment: Vertical (0° to +20° in 1° steps) and horizontal (±20° in 5° steps) aiming with secure locking.
  • Easy Maintenance: Modular design allows LED module or lens replacement without optical realignment; easily replaceable LED driver unit.
  • Power Flexibility: Compatible with both 6.6A series circuits and 110/230V parallel circuits. Optional monitoring and photocell available.
  • Compliance: Meets ICAO Annex 14 Volume I, FAA L-804 (AC150/5345-46), IEC TS/EN 61827, and NATO STANAG 3316 standards.

“The STM Solar Runway Guard Light delivers exceptional performance without reliance on grid power,” said a spokesperson for Airfield Lighting Systems. “Its solar-powered capability, combined with long-life LEDs and rugged design, makes it a cost-effective and sustainable solution for airports seeking reliable runway safety enhancements, especially in remote locations.”

With a lightweight modular build (net weight 23.5 kg) and durable construction, the STM.804 minimises maintenance while maintaining full photometric performance required for critical airfield applications.

LTAL LED Airfield Traffic Lights

Airfield Lighting Systems Launches Innovative LTAL LED Traffic Airfield Light for Enhanced Airport Safety and Efficiency

June 19, 2026 – Airfield Lighting Systems (ALS), a trusted innovator in airfield ground lighting solutions for commercial and military airports, today announced the launch of its new LTAL LED Traffic Airfield Light. This compact, high-intensity LED signal light is designed to deliver clear and reliable visual guidance for aircraft and ground vehicles at critical points such as taxiway intersections and holding positions.

The LTAL features a distinctive configuration with two red LED arrays that flash alternately (approximately 45 flashes per minute) and a single steady green LED array. This setup enables precise Air Traffic Control (ATC) signalling for stop/go instructions, improving operational safety in busy airport environments.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Smart Intensity Control: An integrated photocell automatically adjusts brightness — operating at 100% during daylight and reducing to 10% at night — for optimal visibility while maximising energy efficiency.
  • Independent Control: Separate power inputs allow ATC to switch red and green functions independently.
  • Advanced Monitoring: Built-in current-based LED failure monitoring triggers a dry-contact relay alarm if degradation reaches 25%, supporting proactive maintenance.
  • Robust and Efficient Design: Low power consumption (20W for red / 12W for green), powder-coated aluminium housing in aviation yellow (RAL 1004) with a black anti-glare visor, IP65 environmental protection, and a low-profile frangible bracket for enhanced safety and easy installation.
  • Compliance: Fully compliant with ICAO Annex 14, Volume I and DIO VA01:2022 standards.

“The LTAL represents a significant step forward in airfield traffic signalling,” said a spokesperson for Airfield Lighting Systems. “By combining high-visibility LED technology with intelligent features like automatic dimming and failure monitoring, we’re helping airports reduce energy costs, minimise maintenance, and most importantly, enhance safety for all ground movements.”

The LTAL is supplied in a 230 VAC configuration (order code AL-LATL-RGR-230-FB) and is lightweight for simplified handling. Its durable construction ensures long-term reliability in demanding airport conditions with minimal maintenance requirements.
